Koi Circles

The circle is recognized as a symbol of wholeness and integration with the centre; it is a universal symbol for the spirit. I painted many circles into the detail of this painting after being inspired by a drop in Aikido class – this Japanese martial art focused on using the power of circles in self defense. By using entering and turning movements the force of the attacker can be re-directed rather than opposing it head-on. Pretty cool!
